Rick Scott This Week: “If I was the sitting governor, and the six-week abortion ban came in front of me, I would sign it. I’ve always said I would sign it.”

Miami, FL – Today on the Florida Freedom Tour, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and State Representative Tom Keen held a press call on the importance of protecting Floridians’ freedoms from Rick Scott and his near-total abortion ban.

“Attacking the right to choose when and how to start a family is an attack on our fundamental civil rights and extremists like Rick Scott will not stop there,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “Access to IVF is on the line, the safety of OB/GYN doctors is on the line, and access to contraception is on the line. 70% of Floridians support protecting reproductive care, but Rick Scott continues to lie about his support for a national abortion ban and Florida’s dangerous near-total ban on abortion. He shows time and time again that he does not care for Floridians’ freedoms and safety, and that’s why they will show up to fight at the ballot box in November.”

“Just a few months ago, we flipped HD-35 in what was considered a major toss-up election. The outgoing Republican incumbent previously won the district by double digits, but by focusing on protecting abortion rights and increasing affordability in Florida, we were able to build a grassroots movement that flipped this battleground district by eleven points,” said State Representative Tom Keen. “Floridians are more energized than ever, and we are ready to stand up to extremist politicians like Rick Scott who want to take away our freedoms and elect Debbie, a true champion of freedom and bodily autonomy. Together, we’ll champion equality across our state and defend our fundamental rights.”
