Debbie Mucarsel-Powell Statement On The Ongoing Violence in Haiti

Miami, FL –  This week, the United Nations reported that more than 1,500 Haitians have died as a result of the ongoing violence in Haiti. In response, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell released the following statement.

“My heart is with the people of Haiti and members of the Haitian-American community right here in Florida who fear for the safety of their family and friends. This week’s reports are devastating and I will continue to keep the Haitian community in my prayers,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “The United States must do more to aid the fight for democracy and stability in Haiti, including by sending humanitarian aid to the island and taking steps to stop the organized crime and violence running out of control. We have to pass common sense gun safety laws to stop criminals from bringing weapons out of our ports and into Haiti, both to prevent further violence and loss of life, but also to protect our own national security.”
