Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Gabby Giffords Host Student Roundtable on Gun Violence Prevention

Since Joining The Senate, Rick Scott Has Fought Against Common Sense Gun Safety Regulations

Miami, FL – Today, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Gabby Giffords held a roundtable with students at the University of Miami to discuss the importance of gun violence prevention and making our communities safer with young voters.

“I will never forget when I got the call that my father had been shot. It’s a pain that far too many Floridians also experience,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “But instead of focusing on keeping our communities safe by keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous criminals, self-serving extremists like Rick Scott are only focused on doing the gun lobby’s bidding. Rick Scott refuses to put his own agenda aside to save lives, and Floridians have had enough. Florida’s youngest residents are often the ones most familiar with the devastating consequences of gun violence and they play an integral role in shaping the narrative around gun violence prevention. They are the voices of the future, and together, we will fight for change in November.”

“I met so many young advocates today in Miami who are fighting for a safer future for all Floridians. Together, our hard work can pay off if we elect gun safety champions, like my good friend Debbie Mucarsel-Powell,” said Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “Debbie is also a survivor who turned her pain into purpose, and I’ve been proud to work with her for years to keep communities across the Sunshine State safe from senseless violence. I know her commitment to public safety will never waver. America is at a crossroads, and so is Florida. We can let the shootings continue, or we can act. This November, voters must act and elect Debbie to the US Senate this fall.”
