Rick Scott wrote the plan to sunset Social Security and Medicare – and he’ll push for it again if elected in November.

The National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare is a bipartisan group that supports both Democrats and Republicans committed to preserving Social Security and Medicare.

Miami, FL – Today, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell hosted a press conference with the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare, South Florida AFL-CIO, IBT 769, and Miami-Dade seniors to discuss the importance of preserving Social Security and Medicare.

“The fight to protect Social Security and Medicare is personal to me, my mother, and to so many Floridians,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “My mother worked two jobs to earn her retirement benefits. As I care for her in my home, I see firsthand every day what a difference those benefits have made for her and for millions of Floridians. Millionaire Rick Scott is a fraud who will put our seniors’ well being and our children’s futures in jeopardy in pursuit of his self-serving agenda. Floridians can see past his lies – and they know I will fight to expand these essential programs, not gut it.”

“From his 12 point plan to sunset the ACA, Social Security, and Medicare, to his recent pledge to work with Donald Trump to end health insurance coverage for over 3.2 million Floridians overnight, Rick Scott has made it his mission to destroy affordable health care and strip Americans of their hard-earned benefits in this state and across the country,” said Max Richtman. “That’s why it’s time to reject Rick Scott’s destructive policies and elect Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who will be a true champion of Florida seniors on day one.”

“Rick Scott is single handedly creating a blueprint for disaster,” said Jeffrey Mitchell. “Scott wants to rip the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security away from Floridians – the people he claims to represent. If Rick Scott wins re-election in November, his policies will have devastating effects for our seniors. Florida seniors deserve a Senator who will defend their earned benefits, not threaten them.”
