Rick Scott Votes Against Billions of Dollars in Border Security

The Funding Would Have Made our Border Stronger, Increased Immigration Personnel, and Helped in the Fight to Root Out Fentanyl From our Communities

Miami, FL – Yesterday, Rick Scott and Republican extremists struck down a comprehensive funding package that included billions of dollars for border security. The nearly $20 billion in funding to shore up border safety would have significantly increased the amount of funding for the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – key agencies that secure our border. Critically, this package would have increased the Drug Enforcement Administration’s capacity to trace and root out fentanyl from our communities.

“Rick Scott claims to care about border security, yet last night he voted against nearly $20 billion in funding for border safety,” said Debbie Mucarsel Powell. “At a time when Congress needs to come together to solve our immigration crisis and stop fentanyl from destroying our communities, Rick Scott is putting partisan games ahead of Floridians’ best interests. Floridians are tired of Scott’s ‘my way or the highway’ approach and want a Senator who will get to work to solve problems – not cause them.”
