Representatives Castor, Frankel, Frost, and Wasserman Schultz Endorse Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for U.S. Senate

Miami, FL – Today, Representatives Kathy Castor, Lois Frankel, Maxwell Frost, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz endorsed Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for U.S. Senate, highlighting Mucarsel-Powell’s strong commitment to putting Floridians first.

Last month, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell launched her campaign for U.S. Senate on a promise to fight for Floridians’ democracy, economy, and freedoms. Debbie is running to defeat Florida’s failed Senator Rick Scott who’s trying to raise taxes on families and take away their rights.

“I’m honored and excited to have the endorsement of so many Florida leaders. I’m running for Senate to be a voice for all Floridians, and I look forward to fighting alongside my colleagues to secure our democracy, defend Social Security and Medicare, and protect a woman’s right to choose. Rick Scott has put his own self-enrichment ahead of the interests of Floridians — and together, we are going to fire him next November,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) said, “I’ve stood side-by-side with Debbie as she fought in the halls of Congress and in our South Florida communities, so I know she’s a tireless defender of Floridians’ freedoms and works nonstop to make our state a more affordable, safer place to live. As our nation faces senseless gun violence day after day, I have total confidence that Debbie will stand up to the NRA – because she does it every day. And unlike Florida’s Republican Senator on the 2024 ballot, Debbie would never – ever – jeopardize the Social Security and Medicare system our seniors rely upon. I’m very proud to endorse Debbie for her campaign for Senate, and I look forward to working with her again in our nation’s capital to deliver for all Floridians.”

Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) said, “I’m so proud to endorse my friend Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in her run for Senate. Florida needs leaders who put our state first and will roll up their sleeves to solve the crises we are facing, from our climate to our economy. I worked with Debbie in the halls of Congress to deliver for our state, and I know she’s the right person to move Florida forward in 2024.”

Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22) said, “I know Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. I’ve seen first hand that nothing stops her from fighting for her people. Debbie wrote the bill to expand Medicare for the millions of Floridians who rely on it. But Rick Scott wrote the plan to end Medicare and Social Security — turning his back on Floridians — and that’s why Debbie will be Florida’s next U.S. Senator.”

Rep. Maxwell Frost (FL-10) said, “I’m excited to endorse Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for U.S. Senate. The next decade of elections will determine whether our Democracy is protected. The 2024 Florida Senate race is paramount in our struggle to protect our rights and freedom. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is a fierce leader who is ready to inspire a grassroots movement in every corner of the state to solve the problems of our time: ending gun violence, fighting the climate crisis, and protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.”

Today’s endorsements follow endorsements of Debbie’s campaign for U.S. Senate from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ BOLD PAC, EMILY’s List, and Giffords.

About Debbie Mucarsel-Powell

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell came to the U.S. from South America at a young age with her mom and sisters, fleeing violence and searching for a better life. Debbie was raised in Florida and worked at a doughnut shop to help support her family, while her mother worked double shifts as a home-health care provider. After supporting herself through school and college, Debbie worked for Florida International University’s Colleges of Health and Medicine, where she led a program to expand access to affordable healthcare to more Floridians.

In 2018, Debbie defeated Carlos Curbelo, a two-term Republican incumbent in Florida’s 26th District and became the first South American immigrant elected to the House. Serving in Congress, Debbie wrote a bill to expand seniors’ Medicare Advantage coverage, fought to provide economic relief to families and small businesses, and secured $200 million for Everglades restoration.

Debbie has been a lifelong advocate for keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, after tragically losing her father to gun violence when she was 24 years old.

Now, she is running for the U.S. Senate because Floridians’ basic rights are under attack. Extremist Republican Rick Scott wants to cut Social Security and Medicare coverage, raise taxes for working families, and advance a national abortion ban. Floridians deserve a Senator like Debbie, and our nation needs a second Latina Senator who will fight for our democracy, economy, and our rights.

Debbie and her husband Robert live in Miami and have three children.
