WHAT THEY’RE HEARING: Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s Plan Offers Relief for Hardworking Floridians

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell continues to put the fight for freedom and opportunities for Floridians at the forefront of her Senate campaign. Tuesday morning, she joined Glenn AllGood on WOKB Radio to highlight her plan to bring down the cost of living and fight Rick Scott’s attacks against freedom.

WOKB: Interview with Debbie Mucarsel-Powell

  • As an immigrant who worked her way through high school and college at minimum wage jobs, [Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is] running for US Senate because she knows firsthand that we need to do more to support hard working Floridians who are struggling, from the rising cost of homeowners insurance to housing to health care. Prices are out of control, and Floridians are fed up.
  • So many families in the state of Florida can’t afford to live here. We’re facing a housing crisis and an affordability crisis, most of it is due to the property insurance rates that have skyrocketed. Right here in the state of Florida, families are paying up to 300% higher property insurance rates, and a lot of this started under Rick Scott. When he was governor, he took away public funding for citizens to bring these private insurance companies that made millions of dollars when they were here and then left the state and abandoned almost 150,000 families.
  • We need to expand the Child Tax Credit. Many families were able to find some relief when they were getting that child tax credit- the Republicans actually put a stop to that, and Rick Scott wants to repeal any sort of expansion of the Child Tax Credit.
  • We have an incredible state. There are a lot of opportunities for growth, but these politicians don’t care. They’re completely out of touch. They just want power. They want to use that seat for self enrichment, which is what Rick Scott has been doing for too long. He’s the wealthiest senator, and he’s written a plan that would raise taxes to middle class families, and so we have to start by electing people that are really going to put Florida and the families and the issues that we’re facing here above anything else.
  • Marco Rubio and Rick Scott are the invisible senators.
  • [Teachers are] exhausted, they feel like they can’t teach history. Black history is American history. [Republicans are] attacking, you know, what [teachers] can or cannot say in schools. And so freedom is the center of everything that defines American values.
  • This is about [voters] making the change that we need to get the state back on track.
